Calling All Buckland Newton Fête Stall Holders and Willing Volunteers
It’s time once again to start thinking about the grand Buckland Newton Village Fête, to be held on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August! Still three months away, but this is one of the biggest fund-raising events for Village activities. Among the clubs and organisations that the Fête has raised money for are: Second Friday Lunch Club, Playgroup, Cricket Club, Gardening Club, Buckland Newton School, Holy Rood Church, Bellringers, Youth Moves and the Buckland Newton Website, so you can see that all the money raised remains within the village.
We are hoping to run all of our popular stalls and some new ones too, but already I know that sadly, some of our regulars will be unavailable to help on Bank Holiday Monday this year; we may need a joint organiser for the nearly new stall and we will certainly need someone to be in charge of the china and glass stall. A list of stalls and stall holders will be available in the next edition of the LVN, but please start collecting your donations – bottles of wines and spirits, interesting bottles for the bottle tombola, (no bleach or disinfectants please), raffle prizes (see below), jams and marmalades for the produce stall and then start sorting out your top quality books, bric a brac, clothes (no shoes or boots, thank you), jewellery, tools and toys. The gift box of unwanted gifts was so popular last year that we want to run it again. I’m sure in the last twelve months, you will have managed to collect some more - any new, but unwanted presents are just what we need.
Our Fête Committee members are:
Norman
Adams
Nick Baker
Richard and Sue Bonnie
Alison Chant
Jeremy Collins
Jan and Trevor Marpole
Doug, Kevin and Sylvia Morse
Andy and Viviane Waring
This year, we are looking for additional committee members. If you are interested in helping, please contact me, or one of the committee members as soon as possible, your village Fệte really does need you - Let’s make it one of our best Fête years.

Fête Raffle
This year’s Fête raffle will have an exciting new feel. We are going to make it ‘A Hamper Raffle’. There will be different themed hampers that contain not one, but many tempting prizes. The hampers may include a luxury food one, a beauty one, a wine lover’s one, a gardening one and hopefully a few more – perhaps you have some ideas of your own. Could you sponsor a hamper or provide anything for one of these hampers or do you have an empty basket or hamper that you no longer need? If so, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Doug or Kevin (345 341) or Sue (345 586) as soon as possible.
Ours is an old fashioned village Fête in a lovely setting with masses of sideshows and children's games. Plants - Cakes - Books - Home Produce - Bric-a-Brac - Punch & Judy - Skittles - Grand Raffle - Teas - Ice creams - Tombola - Nearly New - Pimms and Beer Tent - BBQ. In the event of really bad weather, the Fete still takes place with most stalls under cover, so don't let rain put you off!
The Fete is in aid of local village activities and goes a long way to supporting and improving village facilities.
